2 String Bass – Take 2

Posted by Benjamin on September 2, 2008 Filed under: Gear tagged: bassguitar, Bogdon

Well, after the 2 string bass, which I thought was a one of a kind, here is another one! Special thanks to Thumbrella for bringing this monster to my attention:

DSCN0592

It is the Bogdon Box Bass – you can get one for real here on the Bogdon site. Choose between 2 or (the very dizzy heights of) 3 strings. They even have demo videos (lots of them). I’m almost ashamed to say that it doesn’t sound too bad at all! Who’d have thought?

They are priced at around $100 (no idea what that is after shipping to Europe or Asia). It is truely unique. I wonder if it is a cheap way to deal with my URB cravings?!?

Thank you for finding the Bogdon Box. I’m wondering if I might bring one back with me when I next visit the US now! Happy blogging!

THANK YOU for posting the box bass on your blog. The box bass isn’t supposed to be a replacement for quality wood and fine luthier craftsmanship, but rather it’s a crazy fun bass to see, hear, and play. And it attract attention. Every gig i do become a bass-clinic after wards because musicians always want to try it out. The strings are nylon and normally is tuned to E and A, but i prefer to tune it to A and D because the tension feels better. I just have to trasnpose a little bit to get to E,F, Gb and G and Ab… but thats no big deal.

If you have any questions just go to my myspace page.

Hi Bogdon Vasquaf! 🙂 But we think it IS fine craftsmanship! Genius! Thank you for visiting, and solving the mystery of the strings – I’d been wondering what you used.

Wow!I have just seen this guy on Youtube make one off these, he said it takes two hours, which sounds like a long time to make a bass out of cardboard. The sound of the bass is not that impressive, but hey it is made of of cardboard so that’s good enough. I suppose you get what you pay for haha.

I recently found what appears to be a primitive 2 string bass with pickup made from wood at our local flea market. Would love to include a picture but don’t know how. A friend told me it’s called a thumbstick and that’s how I found this website.

I have been play a two string electric bass gutiar for years now. I modified a “Jack Casady” bass. Its fretless with the E&A strung in the two center positions. I play a blend of mountian Asian to American mountian with banjo and tabla. I’ll never go back to the four string.

That’s really interesting. Its like a modern day washtub bass. If I was homeless I would rock one of those. Seriously very good idea.
