Bass Guitar Tools
I’m getting ready to do a few posts on living with bass guitar strings – probably just as well, since I realised that one of my basses has had the same set of strings on for 3 years! I will explain that one. Anyway, before you can really get to down serious string work, you need some tools:
- A philips (cross-head) screw driver.
- An allen key or two (hex key).
- A good set of wire cutters.
- A flat-head screw driver (if you have an older bass).
You can carry these as a set. I spotted this Rogue Guitar Tool Kit
on Amazon US (didn’t see it on the UK site). I have a little bag of tools in an old Boss pedal case, but that stays at home these days. For the road I have a dedicated guitar tool. I had a hunt around and can’t find it on-line anywhere, the closest I found was the Guitar Guizmo Multi Guitar Tool (here on Amazon US

It is still worth having a couple of allen keys in your bag, if your bass has fittings that uses them, as the stand alone tools are that much easier to handle. You can get a complete kit for less that Starbucks are going to hit you for a cup of coffee these days :). Maybe you’ve seen or found a useful tool yourself?

Looks like your basic bicycle multi-tool would probably work too.
Hi Doggo, any pointers? The bicycle tools I’ve seen so far didn’t have Allen keys – which are pretty essential if you have a more modern bass, otherwise you’re fine with a miniature flathead screw driver for adjusting the saddles.
