Bass Blogger Distortion Pedal
This YouTube Video from Bassguitar mag caught my eye if for no other reason than the fact one of the pedals is called the “Blogger” – a Bass Blogger – how about that? I love watching Ed Friedland goofing around too! The first half is the Electro Harmonix Bass Micro Synth, then the bass blogger pedal:
The use of distortional pedals is another one of those issues that splits the bass community – a bit like Marmite – love it or hate it. I’ve only played with a handful of the distortion pedals on the market. Anyone have any favourites or pet hates?
These sound pretty cool. I have never used any distortion pedals, never liked them. Where can I get these.
I recommend the Russian made Electro-Harmonix “Big Muff”. Simply superb for bass, adding colour without flattening dynamics or making the sound hard to fit into a mix. More importantly, the lower frequencies are still there!
There’s a bass guitar distortion pedal shoot out here, which includes the Big Muff Pi: Bass Distortion Pedal Shootout. It also indluces the Tech 21 SansAmp, the Boss ODB-3 Bass Over Drive, Behringer V-Tone Bass BDI and the Digitech Metal Master. That should just about cover it!
I bought the Boss ODB-3 second hand and I really don’t like it. I can’t tell if its broken or its just my guitar/amp/technique. It just doesn’t sound good. 🙁
Im thinking of getting the smaller blogger next time, the pi?

I’m diggin the tones coming from the Electro-Harmonix Bass Synth. One of the best I’ve heard. Reminds me of that fat Bootsy Collins P Funk sound from the 70’s. Great to see this sound coming back.
Anyone aware of a synthesizer for bass guitar that covers only bass instruments? Like bass sax, flugelhorn, bass mandolin, etc.
The Roland VG88 has a bunch of bass sounds – have you had a look at that, or it’s modern replacement, the VB-99
