Ean Evans – Lynyrd Skynyrd Bassist
Lynyrd Skynyrd bassist, Ean Evans passed away earlier this month. Ean was 48, and died after a battle with cancer. He was born in Atlanta, but moved to Columbus after marrying his wife, Eva. He joined Lynyrd Skynyrd after Lynyrd Skynyrd’s previous bassist, Leon Wilkeson, died in his sleep in a hotel room in 2001. Evans toured with the band until being diagnosed with cancer back in 2008.
His most recent album was “Last Time” by Evanscapps, a side project featuring Ean Evans with Bobby Capps (the keyboard player for .38 Special) was released on May 12th, via Rock Ridge Music.
Rock Ridge Music is donating a portion of the proceeds from the sale of the album in Evans’ name to Lyrics For Life (www.lyricsforlife.org), a charity benefits children with cancer and their families. You can hear tracks on the Evanscapps myspace page or WMA files: “Hell If I Know” and “Follow The Morning Sun” and can purchase Last Time on-line.
A sad loss. Fantastic player who was part of an awesome band. I saw them live 14 times.
14 times? Wow.
Indeed a sad loss.
