Hofner Bass – Beatles Style

Posted by Benjamin on June 18, 2011 Filed under: bassguitar, Gear, video tagged: hofner, hollow body

Ah, this via Twitter from @FretZeroMusic and @martyschwartz – a great video review of the Hofner Bass. Made famous my Beatles Bassist, Paul McCartney, this hollow bodied bass has a sound all of it’s own! Not to all tastes, but definitely hightly distinctive and still produced today:

Ha! I’m wearing a “Buffalo Bro’s” t-shirt even as we speak! It’s an incredible store! It’s about 30ish miles north of San Diego in Oceanside / Carlsbad. All musicians should visit the store at least once in their life…. It’s HUGE, and jam packed with guitars!!!!

I used to love the Beatles but to be honest I can’t bear McCartney anymore and I find it sad such a lovely looking instrument is so tied to him

Love that Hofner! Sounds great. Would love to have one but I bet they’re expensive.

I added you to my blog roll; this is a great site for bass players.

Thanks for posting! My father in law is morally opposed to Hofner basses, so it was really fun to hear a positive review for a change! Cheers —

Beautiful bass. I wouldn’t personally buy it, but it goes great with the “Beatles” type of rock n’ roll sound.

I haven’t played around on flat-wound strings very much, but it sounds like they really compliment the tone of the Hofner.

I’ve got the Epiphone Viola Bass, which is very similar. I’m totally in love with it.
